Biographical Note: Bernard Christian Steiner was a native Baltimorean. He received his A.B. from Yale University in 1888. In 1889, he entered the graduate program at The Johns Hopkins University and was granted the Ph. D. in history, 1891. Steiner went on to become the librarian of the Enoch Pratt Free Library (1892-1896) and the dean of the Baltimore Law School, 1900-1904. He died in Baltimore in 1926.
